Holmegaard Glassworks: A Shining Story since 1825
It all began in 1825 when Countess Henriette Danneskiold-Samsøe received permission from the Danish king to establish a glass factory in Holmegaard Mose. Although her husband, Count Christian, passed away before receiving a response to his request, Henriette carried on with the plan.
In the peat bog, rich in fuel for the ovens, production began with green bottles. Thanks to Bohemian glassblowers, beautiful clear glasses soon followed. What started as a small glassblowing workshop grew over 185 years into a large, modern glass factory.
In the 20th century, talented artists brought their creativity to Holmegaard, leading to a thriving tradition of magnificent glasswork.
