Verner Panton and his rich personality
Verner Panton wasn’t just a designer; he was an inspiring and colorful personality. With a unique sense of color, form, light function, and space, he brought to life a series of modern lamps during his career that set them apart from anything his Scandinavian counterparts were creating. His deep-rooted belief in the boundless possibilities of design brought new insights into the function and influence of light.
The Panthella
One of Panton’s most enchanting lamps is undoubtedly the Panthella. With its organic form, reflecting the softest light, the Panthella stands as a true design icon. Panton aimed to create a lamp where both the base and the shade serve as reflectors, combined with the organic shapes for which the Danish designer is renowned. The Panthella, with its glare-free light, is a splendid example of Panton’s brilliant sense of atmospheric lighting.
Upon the initial use of the Panthella, people often think there’s an issue with the on/off switch. “It doesn’t work properly,” they say. “I have to step on it twice to turn the light on, and once more to turn it off.” In reality, the four-step Panthella switch isn’t a flaw but a thoughtful feature! In 1971, manufacturer Louis Poulsen introduced the Panthella 3-lys (Panthella 3-light), where the switch seamlessly interacts with the specially designed lamp.
Let yourself be inspired by the functional and aesthetic design of Verner Panton’s lamps. Bring not only timeless beauty into your home but also add a touch of creativity and ingenuity to your interior.
