Design

Vilhelm Wohlert designed the Magasin ceiling fitting in 1974 for the new Carlsberg Foundation in Copenhagen. The museum is located in an old building, dating back to the 18th century. The museum has many rooms with low ceilings, like many other buildings from this time. The designer designed a small ceiling spotlight with a warm glowing light that would fit into this environment.

Vilhelm Wohlert

Vilhelm Wohlert (1920-2007) studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen. During his career he was professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen from 1968 to 1986. He was also an honorary member of the same institution, where he was also deputy director from 1968 to 1971. He was also a guest lecturer at the American University of California at Berkeley from 1951 to 1953.

Louis Poulsen

Louis Poulsen’s goal is not just to design lamps. By shaping light from a lamp, Louis Poulsen wants to create an atmosphere in which people feel good, both inside and outside. The shape of the light creates space and the products should live harmoniously in the space they define – indirect, soft and inviting.
