Design Holmegaard Morph hanging lamp

In 2005, for the first time in its 180-year history, Holmegaard launches a lamp that is not made of glass. The designers Rune Schou Larsen and Elisabeth Gamborg have created a unique opportunity for the creative consumer to create their own version of the lamp.

I am fascinated by mathematics, geometry and Japanese folding art, all of which contain a lot of creativity while being simple and clean at the same time.

Danish lighting

The uniqueness of the Danish lighting culture is that lighting and cosiness are closely linked. Danish lamp design is not just about form. The purpose of the modern Danish lamp is therefore not only to provide light, but to continue to create beautiful design objects that both adorn and provide cozy light in Danish homes.

History

The history of the Holmegaard Glassworks began in 1825, when Count Christian Danneskiold-Samsøe asked the King of Denmark for permission to establish a glassworks at Holmegaard Mose. However, the Earl died in 1823 without receiving an answer to his request. His widow, Countess Henriette Danneskiold-Samsøe, decided to continue the project when she received permission from the king to establish a glassworks shortly after her husband’s death.

The factory would be located in the peat bog because there was enough fuel there to produce the high temperatures for the glass kiln. The first production at the Holmegaard Glassworks started in 1825. In the beginning, the factory only produced green bottles, but Henriette also wanted to produce clear glass cups, and the Bohemian glassblowers were able to manufacture these. The history of Holmegaard glassworks is the story of a few small glassworks in a peat bog, which grew into a large modern group over a period of 185 years. In the 20th century, artists emerged and designed and shaped Holmegaard’s glass products. This was the beginning of a long and proud tradition. As a result, even today some of the best artists in Denmark are associated with Holmegaard’s glass production.
